Singing plays an important role in my culture, especially in traditional and festive celebrations. For example, during weddings and religious events, singing is often a way for people to express joy and create a warm atmosphere. Many cultural songs have been passed down through generations, and they hold significant meanings related to history and tradition. People value singing as a way to connect with their heritage and celebrate special moments together.

One of the most popular actors in my country is Shah Rukh Khan, often referred to as the “King of Bollywood.” He’s known worldwide and has earned an immense fan following due to his versatility and charisma. Shah Rukh primarily acts in Bollywood movies, which are known for their rich storytelling, vibrant music, and emotional depth. Although he’s performed across a wide range of genres, he’s best known for his roles in romantic films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. These movies not only became huge hits but also shaped the portrayal of romance in Indian cinema.
Shah Rukh Khan was born in New Delhi in 1965 and grew up in a middle-class family. Before he became an actor, he attended school in Delhi and completed a degree in Economics. In recent years, there’s been a growing interest in regional and independent films that explore unique social issues and cultural themes, adding diversity to what people enjoy.
2. What is the difference between watching a film in the cinema and watching a film at home?
Watching a film in the cinema offers a completely immersive experience – from the large screen to surround sound, it feels much more engaging. Cinemas also create a shared atmosphere where people laugh, cry, or gasp together, which adds to the excitement. Watching at home, however, is more comfortable and convenient; you can pause the film anytime and enjoy it at your own pace, often with family or friends in a relaxed setting.
3. Do you think cinemas will close in the future?
While the popularity of streaming services has undoubtedly affected cinema attendance, I don’t think cinemas will close entirely. Many people still enjoy the unique experience of watching a film on the big screen, especially for blockbuster movies. Cinemas might adapt by focusing on luxury or niche experiences, but the communal appeal of cinema likely means they’ll remain an integral part of entertainment for the foreseeable future.

I believe theatre should ideally function as a blend of both. As a public service, theatre can promote art, culture, and social awareness by making performances accessible to more people, including lower-income audiences. However, for sustainability, it’s reasonable for theatres to operate with business principles, offering ticketed events or special shows to generate income. Striking a balance can help theatre remain both financially viable and culturally enriching.
